Im Frühjahr 1831 verfasste Bernard Bolzano für seine »Lebenserhalterin« Anna Hoffmann eine Beschreibung seiner Herkunft und seines Lebens, von der bald etliche Abschriften in seinem Freundeskreis zirkulierten. Eine davon nutzte Bolzanos Schüler und Freund Michael Josef Fesl, um sie 1836 ohne Wissen des Verfassers mit einer langen Einleitung und mit Anmerkungen (sowie mit einem von Bolzano ungeliebten Bildnis) zu veröffentlichen, wobei er als Anhang Bolzanos Rechtfertigung vor dem Prager Erzbischof sowie drei relevante Erbauungsreden aus den Jahren 1809 und 1818 hinzufügte. Diese Texte werden hier kritisch ediert und kommentiert. In the spring of 1831, Bernard Bolzano wrote a description of his origins and life for his »life preserver« Anna Hoffmann, of which several copies soon circulated among his circle of friends. One of these was used by Bolzano's pupil and friend Michael Josef Fesl to publish it in 1836 without the author's knowledge with a long introduction and annotations (as well as a portrait that Bolzano disliked), adding Bolzano's justification to the Archbishop of Prague and three relevant edification speeches from 1809 and 1818 as an appendix.
