Icarus and Velvet is quite different to anything I've read before, but in a good way. I found myself really lost in the lives of the characters and wanting to know more. The imagery is gorgeous and the world building rich and believable, so I felt I was right there with both Velvet and Icarus in their separate lives.

Great twist in the final chapter! I was kept on my toes throughout and really hope there will be more stories to come featuring these fabulous characters as there is so much more I want to know. I know I'm going to be thinking about the characters and wondering what they would be up to now!

ICARUS AND VELVET is a dystopian YA novel, featuring a world divided into Subterraneans and Avians - those that live underground and those who fly with mechanical wings. As a religious zealot slowly amasses power in the Subterranean community, a traitor hides in the midst of the Avians, together threatening to draw these two communities into a war that could see the world decimated once again. I loved the world building in this novel as it felt richly detailed yet distinctly possible.

The action is almost non-stop, leaving the reader breathless and unwilling to stop reading. If you're looking to support an independent publisher, I'd highly recommend giving this book a try.
