European Social Work – A Compendium

The publication takes account of the fundamental developments transforming social work in Europe at the beginning of the 21st century. A European standard of social work has already emerged, but models for future European social work are absent. Therefore the compendium gives an overview of the current transformation process for the first time, discusses the visible and invisible changes and maps out where social work is positioned in the emerging post-welfare states.

Dr. Drs. h.c. Walter Lorenz was Professor of Applied Social Sciences at the Faculty

of Education, Free University of Bozen / Bolzano, and is currently a Contract

Professor of Social Work at the Charles University of Prague

Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Uwe Otto is Senior Research Professor at the Faculty of

Educational Science, University of Bielefeld, and Adjunct Professor at the School

of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Sue White is Professor of Social Work in the Department of Sociological Studies,

University of Sheffield
