Black Beauty is the finest horse imaginable. As a young colt, he lives an idyllic life under the guidance of his mother, Duchess, who teaches him to always be patient and do his best. Once he is grown, Beauty is sent to the charming Birtwick Park. Anna Sewell (1820-1878) was an English novelist who wrote the 1877 novel Black Beauty, her only published work. It is considered one of the best-selling children's novels of all time, although the author originally intended it for adults.
