Clytemnestra's Bind

Queen Clytemnestra's life is shaped by loss, power, and the brutal demands of a world that only sees her as the wife of a tyrant and the mother of heirs. In Clytemnestra's Bind, Susan C. Wilson reimagines the story of one of Greek myth's most reviled women from her own perspective. After her family is destroyed and her first husband killed by Agamemnon, she is forced into a marriage that should have been her undoing. Instead she survives, labours to protect her children, and wrestles with what it means to be queen in a society where male ambition tramples on human life.

This intimate and emotionally charged retelling places motherhood, loyalty, and the search for agency at the heart of mythic history. Wilson's richly detailed Bronze Age world and vivid characterisation bring Clytemnestra's fierce love, grief, and resilience into sharp and compelling focus.

Perfect for readers of feminist myth retellings such as Circe, The Song of Achilles, and The Silence of the Girls, Clytemnestra's Bind shows how a woman judged by history must find her own path.

Susan C. Wilson is a Scottish writer with a lifelong fascination for the myths and history of ancient Greece. She explores what makes us human across time, focusing on desire, power, guilt, and the stories societies choose to tell about women. Susan holds a degree in Journalism from Edinburgh Napier University and a diploma in Classical Studies from the Open University, and has completed further study in Minoans and Mycenaeans with the University of Oxford. Her debut novel, Clytemnestra's Bind, the first standalone book in 'The House of Atreus' trilogy, was longlisted for the Mslexia Novel Competition and later featured in the New York Times.

'Adds an often-overlooked dimension to Clytemnestra's story, allowing the reader a deeper understanding of her character and motives. Truly deserving of the comparison to Madeline Miller's Circe – earns its spot right next to it'

'Bold, brilliant and brutal'

'Brings raw emotion to every page'
