Jarl Einar's story continues! Impetuous and full of energy, the shield maidens rushed into battle and the fight began. When Grjotgard, King of Trøndelag, learns through treachery who started the battle against Horik, King of Denmark, he demands punishment. But Einar, the jarl of Tautra, the small island in the great fjord of Lade, refuses to hand over the shield maiden Thordis, his foster sister and former wife, thus incurring the wrath of the king. Now he has fallen out of favor with his former patron, he himself faces punishment for his disobedience.

The traitor is quickly caught, but before the jarl can punish the man, he manages to steal the sword Blood Eye and flee from the jarl's camp with it. So Einar sets out in search of his precious sword and the fugitive traitor, and this leads him back to the land of his ancestors.
