At the center of the narrative stands Nostromo, a man admired by all for his courage, honor, and leadership. Yet when he becomes entangled in political conflicts and the allure of power and riches, his destiny takes an unexpected turn. Through a complex web of characters and events, Conrad explores human contradictions, the fragility of ideals, and the corrosive effects of greed on both individuals and nations.

Joseph Conrad (1857–1924), born in Berdychiv, in what was then the Russian Empire (now Ukraine), was a novelist of Polish origin who wrote in English and became one of the most influential figures in modern literature. He spent much of his youth at sea as a merchant seaman, an experience that shaped much of his work, which is characterized by an exploration of human nature, colonialism, loneliness, and moral dilemmas.
