The Time Machine follows an English scientist known only as the Time Traveller, who invents a machine capable of moving through time. Determined to explore the future, he journeys hundreds of thousands of years ahead and discovers a world very different from his own.

There he encounters two distinct species descended from humanity: the gentle and childlike Eloi, who live carefree lives on the surface, and the mysterious Morlocks, who dwell underground and maintain the machinery that sustains civilization. As he studies their relationship, the Time Traveller realizes that humanity's social divisions have evolved into a disturbing new form.

While attempting to recover his stolen machine, he faces danger, loss, and the harsh realities of the distant future. His travels eventually take him even farther through time, where he witnesses the gradual decline of life on Earth and the fate of the planet itself.

Combining adventure, scientific imagination, and social criticism, The Time Machine explores themes of evolution, class inequality, progress, and the consequences of human actions. Widely regarded as a landmark of science fiction, it remains one of H. G. Wells's most influential and enduring works.

H. G. Wells (1866–1946) was an English novelist, historian, and social commentator. Known as one of the fathers of science fiction, he wrote classics such as The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau.
