Delphi Complete Works of George Farquhar Illustrated
The early eighteenth century Irish playwright George Farquhar was an author of undisputed comic power, who stood out from his contemporaries for his originality of dialogue and a stage sense inspired from his experience as an actor. His Restoration comedy masterpieces ‘The Recruiting Officer’ and ‘The Beaux' Stratagem’ are among the finest plays of the period. In spite of his untimely death to tuberculosis at the age of twenty-nine, Farquhar left a lasting impression on the theatre world of London. His plays had introduced a verbal vigour and love of character that was more usually associated with Elizabethan dramatists of the century before. For the first time in publishing history, this eBook presents Farquhar’s complete works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, concise introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material.
