The Three Brains
The Neuroscience of What Drives People
What if the person you understand least is the one staring back at you in the mirror?
Every day, three ancient systems fight for control of your mind: a survival brain built for danger, an emotional brain hungry for connection, and a reasoning brain that arrives late and takes the credit. Most bad decisions and needless suffering happen not because you are weak or irrational, but because in a critical moment the wrong system is at the wheel.
In The Three Brains, neuroscientist and clinical psychologist Gregory Bicaj blends cutting-edge brain research with decades of clinical experience to reveal what truly drives human behavior. From the hidden shadow you refuse to look at, to envy disguised as principle, from the theater of social performance to the manipulator's quiet playbook, this is a fearless map of human nature and a practical guide to taking back control.
Inside, you'll discover:
- Why introspection so often lies to you, and how to see your own motives more clearly
- How to read the signals people don't know they're sending without falling for pop-psychology myths
- The crucial difference between personality and character, and why it protects you from misplaced trust
- Why you chase what you cannot have, and how scarcity and desire quietly distort your judgment
- Simple daily practices for emotional sobriety: managing impulses, envy, and reactivity
- How to recognize manipulation, tribalism, and the aggressor's tactics before they take hold
Stop being driven by forces you cannot see, and start understanding what really moves you and everyone around you.
Gregory Bicaj is an Albanian-Swiss neuroscientist and clinical psychologist working at the intersection of brain research, human behavior, and real clinical practice. Educated in biology and psychology at a leading European university and holding a doctorate in behavioral neuroscience, he spent roughly twenty years combining laboratory research on stress, emotion regulation, and decision-making with a clinical practice treating anxiety disorders, addiction, and chronic burnout. From this dual perspective he developed the "Three Brains Principles," a working model describing how modern humans run three evolutionary systems at once. Today he runs a private clinical practice and closed programs for executives and specialists, and writes books in which laboratory neuroscience and clinical experience meet as equals.
