The High Empire rules the Six Kingdoms with puritanical tyranny. Thanks to their Great Unification, those deemed unsavory have been dealt with. The elf and the fey may have been eradicated, but Atheran remembers.

In the town of Havensport Barran Oathbound strives as all dwarves of the Oathsworn do, to keep the oaths he swears. As the only non human race left within the vast borders of the High Empire, keeping your word and staying alive prove to be difficult.

When the oath is sworn to find a mana thief and protect Bryska Ulfdottir and her secret, he unwittingly becomes the target for authority, rebellion, rival guilds and even his fellow Oathsworn. Taking the oath means taking a side, but dwarves learnt long ago that choosing sides comes with a price. Neutrality has been their way for countless generations, it has ensured their survival but it cannot ensure their future.

Barran must rely on new strange friends, both mortal and immortal and unlikely allies in the hope of not only saving himself but the Kingdom of Aetheran. The hands of the twin gods move to shift the scales of the great balance away from the High Empire, and they have chosen Barran to do it.
