With humor and a twinkle in his eye, Hamandus, a retired tax official, recounts stories from his life. Once a week, he meets with his friend Peter at a small café to share his experiences over an espresso.

Among his circle of acquaintances is Gretchen Pohlbrink: a single, vivacious woman with red hair and horn-rimmed glasses. Between their shared outings and minor misunderstandings, a special bond develops. Gretchen has long since developed feelings for the reserved Hamandus.

But whether the serious gentleman truly returns her feelings remains to be seen. Charming encounters, subtle humor, and affectionate observations of everyday life make these stories an entertaining read.
