How Horses Feel and Think
Understanding behaviour, emotions and intelligence
Take a glimpse of the world seen from a horse's point of view
This is a fascinating journey into the emotional world seen from a horse's point of view. Thoroughly researched and presented, this book introduces the reader to the language of horses, to their astonishing mental capabilities and their deepest emotions. The information provided offers a good basis for horse owners to learn how to relate better to their horses, to develop a more harmonious relationship to their horses and to school their horses without using force but in a positive, pro-active way.
Written in an accessible, sometimes light-hearted way from a practical point of view, the author succeeds in bridging the gap between science and the daily experience of everybody dealing with horses.
Marlitt Wendt is a biologist specialising on behavioural sciences, and works as an adviser on behaviour issues for equestrian centres and often attends conferences as a speaker. She works to promote a non-violent relationship between humans and horses by encouraging better understanding.

This book does a nice job of approaching horse behavior and training from a different perspective. It explains why the "pressure and release" method is not always the best way to get results, and takes into consideration the way it adversely affects horses. I like the emphasis on positive reinforcemnet training and why it is effective in gaining results that are long lasting, and emotionally beneficial to both horse and trainer. A very nice, easy to understand and well written book. Highly recommend!
