L. M. Montgomery (1874–1942) was a celebrated Canadian author best known for her 1908 debut novel, Anne of Green Gables. Raised by her grandparents on Prince Edward Island after her mother's death, she became a prolific writer, producing 20 novels, hundreds of short stories, and poems.
