This Festschrift honours the long-standing work of Prof. Maria A. Stassinopoulou at the University of Vienna. Grouped into six thematic sections, the volume contains 30 contributions by the honoree's colleagues, graduates and friends. Their studies commence at the Vienna Chair of Modern Greek Studies, which serves as a compass to direct them into new cosmopolitical areas. From Vienna, the journey takes us out into the world, from Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean all the way to New York, from the Ottoman era to the 20th century, crossing numerous borders and illuminating the world from diverse perspectives. The papers cover language, literature, history, politics, economics, migration, international law, religion, art, medicine, dance, film and cultural memory - always in dialogue with Maria A. Stassinopoulou's research interests.
