Danny Pyle is not a hero.

Just a strong back, sharp eyes, and a familiar named Cargo who talks too much, knows too much, and goes strangely quiet whenever the name Halberd is mentioned.

Every descent is supposed to buy Danny a few more days of care for his sister, Becca — once a brilliant Reader, now trapped in a long-term facility after a stale Concord survey destroyed her future and left the payout conveniently voided.

Then Halberd Care Solutions buys Becca’s account.

The debt is restructured.

Seventy-four thousand dollars.

Thirty days.

If Danny cannot pay, the balance becomes a labor-lien — and the company will own him too.

There is only one way a broke Tier I Porter can earn that kind of money fast enough.

A deep contract.

Nine flooded floors of drowned offices, dead crawlers, failed surveys, corporate lies, and monsters that do not just kill people — they collect them.

The crew that accepts Danny is desperate enough to hire the cheapest Porter on the board. A wounded Tier VI fighter. A young Reader with too much hope. A silent Mender who sees more than she says. And Cargo, who seems to remember things no issued familiar should remember.

Danny is supposed to carry gear.

Instead, he starts carrying something impossible.

Monster traits.

A Sinker’s weight. A Clinger’s grip. The dangerous remnants of creatures that should not be transferable to a support-class license.

The Ledger calls it an anomaly.

The Concord does not comment.

But the deeper Danny descends, the clearer one truth becomes:

Porters were never weak.

They were limited.

And if Danny wants to save his sister, survive the Sump, and expose the system that turns people into collateral, he will have to become the one thing the Concord never planned for.

A support class that can carry the dungeon itself.
